WHY BECOME A STAND UP PADDLEBOARD WHITE WATER LEADER?

This programme is open to anyone with a background in moderate white water paddling. By earning this certification, you'll gain the skills to guide groups safely and joyfully through white water excursions.

During a two-day training session alongside fellow enthusiasts, you'll enhance both your personal abilities and leadership qualities. Alternatively, if you're already seasoned, you can jump straight into assessment.

Moreover, this accreditation is highly valued by clubs, outdoor centres, and organisations seeking to facilitate white water trips on grade 2(3) rivers.

WHAT CAN A STAND UP PADDLEBOARD WHITE WATER LEADER DO?

With this qualification, you can lead diverse groups of white water paddlers on trips tailored to their skills and ambitions in moderate river conditions.

As a leader, you'll have the flexibility to operate independently or be dispatched by clubs, centres, or organisations for various purposes, be it educational, social, or simply for trying out new experiences.

You'll also be authorised to provide Paddle UK Awarding Body Awards and Training, including Personal Performance Awards such as the Start Award, Discover Award, and the White Water SUP Award. Note: Additional experience, training, or qualifications may be necessary. More details can be found in our skills development section.

 

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR THE TRAINING COURSE?

To make the most of your training, it's recommended that you feel confident navigating grade 2(3) white water rivers. Holding the SUP White Water Award prior to enrolling in the training is advised.

 

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR THE ASSESSMENT?

Before your assessment, attending the White Water Safety course is crucial. This course equips you with essential knowledge on safe practices, problem-solving strategies, and proper responses to incidents, ensuring confidence when venturing onto the rivers. 

 

LEADERSHIP E-LEARNING AND ONLINE RESOURCES

Optional interactive eLearning modules cover key principles such as the British Canoeing Awarding Body Model of Leadership, leading in unfamiliar environments, and guiding mixed craft journeys. More information on the Paddle UK website.

PRE-REQUISITES

  • On the Water Paddle UK Membership.
  • Once you are a member, you need to register for the course through your membership portal.
  • You must feel confident navigating grade 2(3) white water rivers. We recommend that you hold the SUP White Water Award before booking on your training to ensure your have the personal skills required.
  • Have attended a White Water Safety Training before going for assessment.
